I grew up in a family that highly values Union solidarity, including BTU, Boston Firefighters Local 718, Ironworkers Local 7, IBEW Local 103, and Massachusetts Nurses Association. From an early age, I learned the importance of Union engagement, upholding the dignity of our labor and of our community in the richness of its diversity. BTU Solidarity extends to the learning conditions of our students. Twenty-five years as a Boston educator provides me with a unique perspective of the needs of our education professionals across our schools.

The Executive Vice President’s role is to enforce collective bargaining agreements through leadership of the grievance process. As a Building Rep, with experience as an attorney in the Massachusetts and Federal Bars, I have built unique skills consonant with the role of Executive Vice President.

I engage with administrators to address contractual violations at the school level.

I support members through the Investigatory Meeting (IM) process, through legal analysis and ensuring fairness, transparency, and the due process rights of the educator.

Served as co-facilitator of Racial Justice Affinity Group at O’Bryant.

Served as BTU representative to personnel subcommittees and head of school screening committees.

I have engaged with attorneys and leadership in arbitration, impact bargaining, and the grievance process.

As trustee-secretary of the Legal Services Fund, I worked to expand the financial health of the fund, improve the responsiveness of legal providers, recruited diverse legal providers, and enacted a financial wellness benefit for our members.

With COPE, I worked to support pro-Union and pro-public education candidates.

As EVP, I will provide knowledgeable, proactive, and member-centered leadership:

I will implement case management systems and provide members with regular status updates on their grievances.

I will lead the grievance committee to the highest legal and ethical standards.

I will advocate for the improved working conditions, benefits, and quality of life of our members, active and retired.

In solidarity,
Paul Christian
